Backed by extensive experience in logistics and leadership roles, Chris is responsible for all of our warehousing sites, including contracts with household names like Cummins, Hitachi, Del Monte and Specialized.
Chris joined PD Ports in 2017, having spent close to 20 years working for the likes of Scottish & Newcastle, Tesco and Carlsberg UK. Originally starting as Contract Manager he was soon promoted to Operations Manager, first working at our Billingham and Hartlepool sites before transferring to Teesport. In 2024, Chris became Operations Director for UK Warehousing, overseeing operations all the way from Billingham in the North East to Felixstowe on the East coast.
Having previously been an apprentice footballer with Macclesfield Town, Chris understands the importance of teamwork. Supported by his colleagues, his time at PD Ports has provided the perfect environment to develop professionally and personally.
“I’ve been fortunate to work with some excellent leaders throughout my career and they have trusted me in responsible roles despite a perceived lack of experience at times. Having the confidence and autonomy to make decisions, regardless of the level you work at is an important part of leadership and it made me want to repay those who have trusted in me.
“This is something that I try to adopt within our team today. I firmly believe that a good leader is somebody who doesn’t have all the answers or the most experience. It’s someone who knows how to get the best out of the skills, knowledge and experience around them, so that everyone benefits.”
With such a progressive journey, Chris’ career has provided diverse challenges but also the opportunity to learn and grow. And with an eye on the future, he’s also keen to guide tomorrow’s leaders.
“Working in ports and logistics provides you with many opportunities to engage with people from various business sectors, all with different backgrounds, behaviours and needs.
“I enjoy working alongside other departments and I like the idea of being trusted to help shape our future. I know many people across our business who have the potential to become excellent leaders and we have a responsibility to provide them with the opportunities and platform to do so.”
