PD Ports has won two awards at the recent North Lincs Health and Safety Group Annual Awards for the level of safety achieved at the operations based around the Humber Region.

The first award collected by PD Ports was one that recognised companies that had achieved a better accident performance than the average for their industry. A total of 13 companies within the region received this award.

The second award won was the Special Safety award for the organisation that had demonstrated outstanding achievement in Health & Safety improvement. This was the main award of the evening in which PD Ports were up against three other worthy companies for the accolade.

Ed Hodson, head judge for North Lincs Health and Safety Group, said: “All four companies demonstrated what can be achieved through dedication and focus on work health and safety through their initiative, creativity and passion. They have led by example to ensure that staff are an integral part of their businesses and help to ensure that their workers can go home each and every day free from injury, death and disease. PD Ports in winning the award showed their commitment to encouraging worker involvement which has being the key to creating a safety culture change.”

The awards were presented by Peter Clark, Mayor of North Lincolnshire, and Kerry Ross, Chairman of Safety Groups UK, at an awards ceremony dinner held at the Forest Pines Hotel in Brigg on 28 February. The safety awards are regarded as one of the most prestigious in the region, attended by over 100 members of the local business community.

Russell McCallion, PD Ports Group Human Resources Director, commented: “At PD Ports the safety of our staff, contractors and visitors is our number one priority. We continuously strive to improve the safety of our sites throughout the company. We are delighted to have collected two awards for safety, and huge credit goes to all of our employees, the local management and to the health and safety team who have all done an excellent job in improving safety standards.”
