Navigation

Is there a speed limit within the Port of Tees and Hartlepool?

A vessel should be navigated with such care and caution and at such speed and in such manner so as not to endanger the lives of or cause injury to persons or damage to property, and not to interfere with the navigation manoeuvring loading or discharging of vessels or with moorings, river banks or other property.

Which side of the navigable channel should I navigate my vessel?

The Master of a vessel navigating in the navigable channel shall keep their vessel to the starboard side of the channel, except when crossing the channel to or from moorings.

Are there any areas of the Port of Tees and Hartlepool which I am not permitted to navigate?

Restrictions

Is there any restriction on use of recreational vessels?

No person may use any sailing boat, canoe, paddle boat or other recreational vessel in the Port of Tees and Hartlepool in a manner which may cause any danger, annoyance, nuisance or inconvenience to other users, or any injury to any person or damage to any property.

Is there any restriction on recreational activities?

No person may engage in water-skiing, sail boarding, kite surfing, paddle boarding or any other activity involving movement in the Port of Tees and Hartlepools in a manner which may cause any danger, annoyance, nuisance or inconvenience to other users, or any injury to any person or damage to any property.

Can I anchor within the Port of Tees and Hartlepool?

No. Except in an emergency or with the permission of the Harbour Master.

Can I moor alongside navigation aids within the navigable channel?

No. A Master must not make their vessel fast to, lie against or interfere with any navigational aid.

Can I conduct non-commercial diving operations within the Port of Tees and Hartlepool?

No person can conduct any diving operations, except with the permission of the Harbour Master.

Who do I report to if I have an incident within the Port of Tees and Hartlepool?

The Harbour Master must be immediately informed of the following:-

  1. If a vessel has been involved in a collision with another vessel, property, or other object or has been sunk or grounded or become stranded;
  2. If a vessel is affected by fire, is defective or otherwise is in such condition as to affect its safe navigation or to give rise to danger to other vessels;
  3. If a vessel is causing an obstruction in the Port of Tees and Hartlepool.
