Why did you choose to study an apprenticeship?

After I finished college, I knew I didn’t want to go to university, but I was still keen to gain more qualifications. So, I chose an apprenticeship to kick-start my career but still continue my learning – it was the best decision of my life.

What have you learned through your apprenticeship and training with PD Ports?

Through my apprenticeship I learned so many valuable business skills such as working as a team, time management and organisation. But through my job with PD Ports I’ve also learned so many valuable life skills like first aid.

What support has PD Ports given you throughout your apprenticeship?

PD Ports has been great! I was allocated time to dedicate to my studies, and a mentor within my department to help support me with my learning, coursework and anything I felt I was struggling with. The entire team supported me through everything I did.

Having now experienced both the theoretical and practical side of this department, I’m now really keen to progress throughout my career, look at more study opportunities such as a Degree Apprenticeship, and ultimately become a business manager.

Any final words?

If you’re considering an apprenticeship I’d say definitely go for it! It’s the greatest thing you’ll ever do – it’s a perfect balance between work and learning.
