PD Ports is incredibly proud that, as a company, it has invested in apprenticeships since 1977. Presently, 47 of our employees are continuing to develop their skills, utilising apprenticeship standards from all career stages, from new starters up to director level.
Earlier this week, we encouraged 31 learners, past and present, to get together in celebration of National Apprenticeship Week, in recognition of how apprenticeships support the growth of their knowledge and give them ‘Skills for Life’. We had a brilliant time recognising the valuable contribution these people make to us, as they had the chance to network and take part in team-building activities.
Joining together in teams, they raced against the clock in a high energy competition, trying to finish as many challenges as possible before time ran out. Activities ranged from puzzles and quizzes to complex physical activities and games, exposing hidden talents in those participating.
After the event, we caught up with a few of those who took part and they were all delighted with how it went:
“All of the members, including myself, on my table really enjoyed the exercise. It was great to spend the time with the newest members of PD Ports!” – Neil Dalus, Engineering Director
“The event was great fun and it gave me an opportunity to network with people working at different sites that I wouldn’t have been able to meet otherwise. I would recommend anybody to attend should they get the chance.” – Callum Foster, Insurance
“As part of my role, it’s really important for me to make a lot of connections in the company, so any opportunities I have to meet people are PD Ports are fantastic. This event was even better, as everyone attending were learners and sharing the same experience as me!” – Callum Galloway, Marketing & Communications
“It was a great opportunity to meet some new learners that have joined in the past year, as well as a few other people who I hadn’t caught up with in a while. There were some exciting team-building tasks, which was great because it showed how everyone on the team brought something different to the table. Overall, I think it was a very successful day, and I look forward to the next event involving us all!” – Sam Cornwell, Purchase Ledger
