PD PORTS CONTINUES WINNING STREAK WITH RECOGNITION FOR COMMITMENT TO CARBON REDUCTION AT NEPIC INDUSTRY AWARDS

PD Ports has added another award win to its roster after being crowned category winner for the ‘Corporate Environmental’ award at the NEPIC Annual Industry Awards on Friday evening.

Launched 15 years ago, the awards celebrate the outstanding achievements of the companies and individuals that make up the chemical-processing industries in the North East of England.

The corporate environmental award sought an organisation who has successfully completed environmental impact projects in order to have a positive effect on the natural world – something that sits atop the agenda at PD Ports as it continues to take strides towards achieving its ambitious net zero targets.

Frans Calje, PD Ports CEO, expressed his delight as his team collected another accolade and explained why this recognition was so important to PD Ports.

“I could not be prouder of this recognition,” said Frans. “We recognise that we operate within a traditionally heavy-industry area and, as the Statutory Harbour Authority and a responsible business, we are committed to driving forward sustainable initiatives and introducing more environmentally friendly solutions across the supply chain.

“It is fantastic to see that, as a key area of attention for our business, our efforts to reduce our impact on the environment are being recognised.”

The North-East based port operator, who is also owner and operator of Teesport, is fully committed to reaching carbon neutrality across all of its Tees-based sites by 2027, which will make it one of the first UK ports to hit the milestone.

Over the past 12 months, PD Ports has embarked on a number of new energy transition projects, including converting four Rubber Tyred Gantry Cranes to run on electric power, and also forming new collaborations with local initiatives like the Tees Rivers Trust to deliver on shared ambitions to protect the local ecology along the River Tees.

Chloe Lawrence, Project Officer at Tees Rivers Trust, attended the event as PD Ports’ guest on the evening and also commended the port operator for its achievements.

“It was a pleasure and honour to attend the NEPIC awards to support PD Ports and see them win their Corporate Environmental Award,” said Chloe.

“As a partner (and Patron) of Tees Rivers Trust, it was great to see PD Ports gain recognition for the great work they are doing with the environment, and we look forward to continue working with them in the future.”

Celebrating the region’s best and brightest, the flagship NEPIC Awards support STEM education across the North East Chemical-Processing sector, with winners able to select a local school or initiative to receive funding towards a science related project.

PD Ports allocated its £2000 winnings to the Tees Valley Education Trust to continue the collaboration on developing an enterprise charter for young people across the region.
