PD Ports is delighted to have secured a long-term agreement with STRABAG, a world leader in innovation and construction capability, to set up a new manufacturing facility at its Hartlepool site.
Hartlepool Dock is part of the thriving Teesport complex which, under the ownership and operation of PD Ports, continues to act as a leading gateway for international trade, providing businesses throughout the North and across the UK with essential access to global markets.
Construction company STRABAG has been awarded a contract from HS2 to create a new facility at Hartlepool to manufacture in excess of 30,000 precast concrete segments for tunnels which will then by transported, via direct rail connections, to London for the HS2 development.
Having attracted over £1 billion of new investment to the region in the last decade, PD Ports is committed to supporting the Government’s ‘levelling up’ agenda for the North and CEO, Frans Calje believes that the arrival of STRABAG at Hartlepool will further boost the port operator’s ambitions to elevate the unique strengths of the River Tees.
Frans Calje, PD Ports CEO, said: “After more than 18 months’ worth of discussions, we’re absolutely delighted to welcome STRABAG to Hartlepool Dock as the base for its new manufacturing facility to supply concrete tunnel rings to the HS2 development.
“We’re very much looking forward to working with STRABAG as they play an integral part in the HS2 development, which, when delivered, will be an enabler for opening up the national rail network and increasing opportunities for freight movements trans-pennine, something PD Ports, alongside industry partners, has lobbied hard for with central government for a number of years.
PD Ports has a track-record of delivering long-term contacts with global customers and STRABAG joins a growing list of industry-leading businesses with manufacturing facilities at Hartlepool Dock, chosen for its first-class infrastructure, excellent transport connections and wealth of local skilled labour. As the Statutory Harbour Authority for the River Tees, we are wholly committed to driving inward investment for the Tees Valley, delivering real, sustainable jobs and supporting the government in achieving its ambitions to levelling up.”
