We’re going green – and it’s all for a good cause!
As part of our continuing commitment to looking after the environment, we are hosting our first ever Green Week, from July 1st to 5th, with plenty of exciting activities for everyone to get involved in.
As proud members of the Redcar | Cleveland Ambassadors programme, here at PD Ports we’re passionate about supporting the community we live and work in, and this is just one way we can make a difference.
PD Ports’ shipping and inspection services in Purfleet, were the first to start proceedings back in June when they filled an impressive 100 black bags as part of an onsite clean-up operation that also helped to boost morale and camaraderie amongst staff.
This time, the week-long event has been organised by our wonderful Environmental and Safety Champions across all of our UK sites, who are encouraging staff to support the initiative through car sharing, wearing green clothing and making a conscious effort to avoid using plastic bottles.
For those who want a bigger challenge, we have a number of initiatives planned, from litter picking to lifeboat restoration and everything in between.
Our Teesside team is looking forward to helping out at the RSPB Saltholme nature reserve on Friday July 5th. We have been offered 15 places at the reserve and our volunteers will spend the full day there, getting stuck in and seeing first-hand the amazing work the charity does.
Down on the Trent, staff at Groveport will be conducting a litter pick, as well as adding more hard hat hanging baskets to the main building and transport office.
Meanwhile, staff in Felixstowe will be engaging in some healthy competition vying for prizes in an environmental themed quiz, as well as undertaking a beach clean-up at Languard Point later in the month.
Other events are going on across the country, and there’s bound to be something for every member of the team to get involved in.
David Jones, Group Health, Safety and Environmental Manager, said: “We decided to hold a Green Week rather than just celebrating for one day, in order to ensure that as many people as possible could be involved across the business.
“We always endeavour to support the communities we operate in, and this is just one of the ways in which we’re doing so.”
