Local port operator PD Ports has demonstrated its on-going commitment to strengthening links between industry and education by supporting the learning and development of over 150 early year students at Hartburn Primary School in Stockton.
Through the Port’s staff support scheme, which was set up in 2007 to help causes and organisations that employees are actively involved in, £250 was donated to the purchase wooden building blocks for the outdoor play area.
The new equipment will be used by the early years’ children, which includes nursery and reception ages, to help improve moving and handling skills, encourage creativity and the sharing of ideas to problem solve.
Mrs Graham, Head of Early Years at Hartburn Primary School, commented on the donation: “It was a lovely surprise to receive this donation from PD Ports. The school is always grateful of support given by local businesses as it helps us to continue to provide the high quality facilities we strive to give all our pupils.”
PD Ports’ PR and Communications Manager, Kirsten Donkin, said: “Getting industry and education engaged on any level is encouraging. Having awareness of what goes on beyond the school gates in terms of business and life skills is important from an early age and is of great importance to our business.
“Our staff support scheme is just one way in which we are able to help raise awareness of the Port and develop those relationships with schools. We are delighted to achieve this whilst supporting our employees in making a difference within the local community.”
