PD Ports employees have raised over £25,000 in aid of Teesside based Butterwick Hospice after completing this year’s Great North Run in support of the charity.
The team of 66 is thought to be the largest ever single entry from a local business since the race began in 1981.
Jerry Hopkinson, PD Ports’ Managing Director Bulks, Ports and Logistics, said: “I am delighted to see that the team’s hard work and dedication has surpassed all expectations having collectively raised over £25,000 for Butterwick Hospice. I would like to thank every person who committed to taking part, well done.
“National events like the Great North Run always raise competitive spirits, while also raising much needed funds for our chosen charities. We are very proud to support Butterwick Hospice and the excellent service offered to its patients and their families.”
Despite a few aches and pains all 66 team members crossed the finishing line and were treated to energy snacks and massages by the Hospice.
Mandy Shields, Events Team Leader for Butterwick Hospice commented “I would like to say a really big thank you to everybody at PD Ports for the time and energy that they have given to this event. We are overwhelmed by how much the team have raised. It costs over £3.8m each year to run the hospice and it is only with the support of people such PD Ports that we are able to continue to provide our services freely to our patients.”
