PD Ports win Best Dry Bulk Port at the International Bulk Journal awards in Antwerp

PD Ports awarded Best Dry Bulk Port at the International Bulk Journal awards in Antwerp competing against global ports in the Bulks indusrty.

The award celebrates investments in people, equipment and infrastructure which enable us to handle dry bulk cargo and heavy lift cargo in a safe, sustainable and efficient manner.

PD Ports has been at the forefront of strategic investment to revive Teesside’s bulk handling capacity across the last decade.

Starting with the investment in a £9.2m, 300,000sq ft Teesport Bulks Terminal following the collapse of the steel industry, alongside a £50m redevelopment of Teesport’s No.1 Quay, supported by Regional Growth Funding, to expand the port’s rail-connected bulk handling facilities.

In 2023, two electric, rail-mounted, Liebherr harbour cranes, representing an £8.6m investment, arrived at Tees Dock. Improving bulk handling capacities from 100 to 140 tonnes in a single lift, they offer an environmentally conscious and efficient solution for loading and discharging bulk commodities.

In the last year further investment in technology has optimised loading procedures, including automated weighbridge systems and bespoke terminal operating system, plus complex planning programmes for every lift.

All complimented by our highly-skilled team who regularly display their capability in handling multiple discharges simultaneously. Effective coordination between vessels and stevedores ensures a streamlined process from start to finish. Each vessel is assigned a dedicated team, working to unload the cargo in a timely manner, without compromising on safety.
