PD Ports has been recognised at the ASDA Carrier Awards for the second year in succession, winning the UK Container Carrier Award 2011 for the combination of its Logical Link and PD Logistics services.
Alex Linton, ASDA Supply Chain Operations Manager, says it was: “a well deserved award, reflecting the focus, commitment and hard work of the whole team at PD Ports.”
ASDA launched the awards last year to help it continue to raise standards amongst its logistics suppliers, and contestants had to demonstrate improvements in seven areas: colleagues, service, compliance, empty miles/positioning, equipment, fuel efficiency and innovation.
Frank Antropik, PD Logistics General Manager (North) collected the award from Lee Hodgkin Carrier Manager –Imports, Supply Chain Operations at the awards ceremony at Queens Hotel, Leeds.
“I was delighted to accept the award on behalf of all the PD Logistics and Logical Link staff,” he says. “We know that ASDA sets very high standards of quality and efficiency for its suppliers so we greatly value this accolade. We invest in training, in equipment, and in developing the best IT systems in order to continue improving service to all our customers – and it is great to have that recognised by ASDA.”
PD Ports launched the Logical Link shortsea shipping service between its own facilities at Teesport and Felixstowe, saving ASDA £12 million and three million road miles annually through the three times a week service. PD Logistics transports the containers from the quay at Teesport to the ASDA import centre on the port and to external sites within the area. It also devans distressed or out-of-spec cargo, provides flexible warehousing space and handles overflow road trailers as needed.
Mr Antropik believes the introduction of key account management by PD Ports has greatly enhanced the relationship between the group and ASDA, leading to greater efficiencies, a higher level of performance and KPI targets being met consistently. “It has enabled the two companies to work more closely together, and given us a greater understanding of the needs of the customer.”
PD Ports also recently won the Supply Chain Partnership Award at the annual IFW Freighting Awards, the first time a ports group has won this category.
