Influencing perceptions

The programme offers Year 6s their first glimpse of potential future careers during a trip around Teesport, showing them the range of careers available on their doorstep.

As a business, we recognise that the earlier in life children are exposed to career experiences, the greater the impact and the greater the chance of positively influencing perceptions.

We have welcomed pupils to Teesport from schools across the Tees Valley, where they are given a guided tour and the chance to hear career stories from our team.

Steve Brown, Year 6 teacher, Captain Cook Primary School

“The team at PD Ports provided an exceptional experience for our Year 6 children during our visit to our local port. Our time spent with you was not only educational but also incredibly enriching, leaving a lasting impression on both the children and staff. The opportunity for our children to learn about the operations of a port, particularly through hands-on experiences, was invaluable.

“The activities you and your team organised, including the crane simulator session, the afternoon careers carousel and the insightful tour of the port, were all engaging and educational. These experiences allowed our Y6 pupils to gain a deeper understanding of the complexities involved in managing cargo and the significance of port operations within our local community and beyond.

“Furthermore, I would like to commend your team for seamlessly integrating our visit with the curriculum objectives in Geography and STEM. The practical application of geographical concepts and processes, such as trade routes, transportation networks, and economic development, greatly enhanced our classroom learning and provided real-world context for our studies.

“Moreover, your efforts in showcasing potential careers at PD Ports were highly appreciated. Exposing our students to various career pathways within the maritime industry not only broadened their horizons but also inspired them to consider future opportunities in this field. Your team’s enthusiasm and willingness to share insights into different roles and responsibilities were truly inspiring for our young learners.

“The impact of this experience will undoubtedly resonate with our children for years to come, and we are immensely grateful for your support in enriching their learning journey.”
